K&W Underground, Inc. Participates in Construction Industry 2018 National Safety Week

K&W Underground, Inc. hosted a week-long series of events and activities as part of the construction industry's 2018 Safety Week campaign. The theme for this year's Safety Week was "The Power of Safe Choices." More than 80 construction firms across the U.S. and Canada were involved for the annual Safety Week, a construction industry-wide education and awareness event held May 7-11, 2018.

"Everyone goes home safely tonight" is our motto and for this to happen, everyone working at K&W must be committed to every detail- both large and small- to create a safe working environment. It's more than a slogan, it's a way of life," Rex Schick, Director of Business Development for K&W Underground, Inc states. "It is my responsibility to create and maintain a culture of safety. We work each day to educate, train, remind and reinforce those actions that allow us to be safe."

Safety is an essential part of every job we do, and during Safety Week, we had our employees participate in a fun activity or training each day to remind them about the steps we take to remain safe.

The second Tuesday of each month, our team participates in a monthly safety training on different topics in the industry presented by Progressive Environmental & Safety Consulting Group. The May safety training was all about National Safety Week, and its importance. Our employees enjoyed a surprise visit by Chris Cakes for some breakfast, and new safety week t-shirts!

Later in the week, we added a little fun into our random job site inspections to celebrate #safetyweek with a Q&A feature. All employees that had correct answers were entered into a drawing for some free Royals or Sporting KC tickets! Congratulations to Kyle Wilkins & Bryce Strickler!

During those job site inspections, we also wanted to recognize the crews that exemplified demonstrating safe work practices and culture on the job site. These winners included Sam Alexander and Cody Kruger, Vacuum Operators and Coree Yingling, and Jesus Ibarra, Drill Operators, who won Bass Pro gifts cards. We thank them for their hard work in keeping themselves, K&W and our communities safe.

“K&W Underground, Inc.’s reputation in the industry has been built on quality, value and timeliness of service.  It’s a delicate balancing act to combine these important performance metrics with safe work practices.  It’s our opinion that, workplace safety starts with consistent leadership, qualified safety professionals and employees that can apply these practices on the job," Bill Reidy, K&W Underground, Inc.
